Mini pigs are becoming increasingly more popular as nonrodent species for toxicology and for a wide variety of pharmacology modeling. They are especially useful for burn and wound healing, dermatology, ocular, dental, nasal toxicology and efficacy work. At CBI, we have a comprehensive capacity for minipigs and we like to use both micropigs and minipigs as well as standard pigs. The Gottingen minipig and Yucatan are favorites of the FDA. We have just completed a long term ocular implant, and a long term dermal toxicity as well as numerous burn studies. Their small size, good health, docile temperment and anatomic features similar to humans make them ideal for research.
