Plastic and Ground Sections
Plastic Sections are used for the evaluation of nondecalcified bone, devices such as stents, filters, for bone pins, and implanted material such as suture. Tissues may be prepared in resin (MMA, GMA) for either grinding, or for cutting on a Tungsten knife. CBI maintains state of the art equipment for preparation of resin sections.
- Hematoxylin and eosin
- Special stains (ex Toluidine Blue, Trichrome, Ver Hoeff’s, Movatt’s Pentachrome)
- Immunohistochemistry on resin sections (SMA, Collagen, Inflammatory Cells, other markers)
- Tissues may be analyzed routinely by light microscopy
- Tissues may be analyzed by digital image analysis or histomorphometry
