Research Associate
Comparative Biosciences, Inc. is seeking to recruit a Research Associate to support the company’s rapid growth. The ideal candidate will possess the technical expertise to function effectively in a GLP toxicology and drug development environment, supporting study directors by implementing and coordinating biomedical R&D studies and meeting study specific time lines. The right candidate needs to possess good problem solving skills, a good understanding of study techniques, and excellent planning and communication skills. The position may be filled at either the Research Associate I or II level depending on qualifications and experience of the candidate.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Dosing animals.
- Observing and recording baseline and experimental findings in animals.
- Preparing for and performing minor surgical procedures with supervision.
- Necropsy of animals.
- Understanding and complying with SOPs, GLPs, and other applicable regulations.
- Some animal husbandry as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- 0-5 years experience working in a pharmaceutical, biotech or contract research organization, preferably in preclinical development.
- Basic knowledge of animal handling in a biomedical research and development environment, e.g., rodent, rabbit, large animals.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Education: BS degree in a biological sciences field
- Certification by AALAS as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) or higher within the first twelve months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience: 3 or more years of experience conducting in-life pharmacology, pharmacokinetic, surgical, and/or toxicology studies and performing necropsies and data collection in GLP and non-GLP environments.
- Certification by AALAS as a Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATg).

Histotechnologist
We are seeking an individual with industry experience. The ideal candidate will be certified and possess the technical expertise to function effectively in a GLP Histology Laboratory.
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Performs routine animal histopathology procedures including trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining tissues.
- Provides training to other employees in Histology procedures mastered.
- Provides routine lab support including purchasing of supplies, organizing the laboratory, maintaining equipment, and inventory.
- Maintains study records to ensure compliance with GLPs and other applicable regulatory requirements.
- May perform specialized histology procedures including cryotomy, bone decalcification, quality control, special stains and immunohistochemistry.
- Maintains equipment and performs troubleshooting.
- Safely handles chemicals, distinguishing between waste and recyclable materials.
- Comply with all applicable SOPs, GLPs, and other regulations.
- Provides support to other areas of CBI as qualified by training and/or experience.
Required Qualifications
Typically requires at least 2 years of technical training and experience in histotechnology. High School Diploma or AA/AS required
Preferred Qualifications
Certification and 3 years of technical training and experience in histotechnology.
Toxicologist/Study Director
Comparative Biosciences, Inc. is seeking an experienced Toxicologist with industry experience as a Study Director to support the company’s rapid growth. The ideal candidate will possess the in-depth conceptual and technical expertise to function effectively in a GLP toxicology and drug development environment.
Primary responsibilities will include
- Serving as a Study Director for preclinical safety studies with overall responsibility for the technical conduct of a study as well as for the interpretation, analysis, documentation, and reporting of results.
- Utilizing your knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice, regulatory requirements, and drug development processes.
- Independently designing, conducting, monitoring, and interpreting preclinical toxicology and other preclinical product development studies and preparing the associated regulatory submissions.
- Specific work areas will primarily involve toxicology and pharmacokinetics studies, and secondarily pharmacology or efficacy studies in the areas of oncology, inflammation and/or cardiovascular studies.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 5 to 8 years, including a minimum of 3-5 years as a toxicologist and study director supporting safety assessment of drug development candidates at a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company or preclinical contract research organization. This experience must include preparation of regulatory documents.
- Education: advanced degree in Toxicology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Life Sciences or a related field or D.V.M.
- Experience with traditional animal models, e.g., rodent, rabbit, large animals.
- The candidate must have demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, strong organizational and computer skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Ph.D. or D.V.M in Toxicology, Pathology, Life Sciences or a related field.
- Board certification is highly desirable (ABT, ABVT, or ACVP).
- Experience in pharmacokinetics and/or pharmacology in the areas of oncology, inflammation, cardiovascular disease.

Business Management Bookkeeper/Assistant
The person we are looking for must be able to work independently and proactively with minimal supervision to assure the highest functionality in both the Business and Executive departments. This person must possess good decision making skills and be able to cross function with Administrative – Scientific – Client groups.
Some of the responsibilities of this position are:
- Performing accounts payable functions for the Company
- Placing Purchase Orders via telephone and internet
- Backing Up and Assisting Accountant with AR, General Ledger and Payroll as needed
- Maintaining Vendor and Client files
- Updating databases as required
- Assisting in Fixed Asset Tracking
- Assisting the Business Manager
The requirements for the position are:
- AA degree, preferably in Business related study
- 2-3 years relevant experience in purchasing and bookkeeping
- Strong written and oral communication skills - English is essential.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
- Mastery of QuickBooks software
- Ability to deal directly and professionally with customers and vendors
- Detail oriented and able to work with a high degree of efficiency with minimal supervision
