Histomorphometric, or digital image analysis, is an important tool in the assessment of many types of histopathology changes. Digital photomicrographs are made and imported into image analysis software. The images are analyzed by the software and appropriate calculations and statistical analysis performed. The following are but a few examples of tissues and tissue disorders in which histomorphometric assessment may be informative:
- Intravascular changes including neointimal proliferation following angioplasty or stent deployment
- Bone, cartilage-osteopenia, osteoporosis, cartilage repair
- Arterioscleroses in vessel walls
- Wound healing
- Neovascular or capillary proliferation in retinas or tumors
- Brain infarct size
- Heart infarct size
- Size, number and configuration of tumor metastases
CBI offiers morphometry or digital image analysis in a GLP or nonGLP environment. Our Olympus program or LABCAT are powerful and useful tools for morphometric assessment. Digital images may be saved and analyzed n a variety of formats and measurements calibrated appropriately. We offer the following validated measurement tools: Length, width, area, derived or calculated diameter, and radius. Measurements may be made automatically by the program or by hand.
