In this photomicrograph, a buried suture infected with Staphylococcus aureus is presented. There is a rim of bacterial surrounding the suture and a dense, acute suppurative inflammation surrounding the suture. Test antibiotic treatment resulted in a complete clearing of the bacterial infection.
